A large vertical storage machine 8m x 3m x 1.5m had a Firetrace CO2 system installed with the tubing on the inside perimeter of the unit. The whole area is non-smoking, however, we have to assume that an operative was smoking within this area, and when a supervisor was approaching him/her, the cigarette was kicked under the bottom of the machine. Again on the assumption that the cigarette had rolled up against the Firetrace tubing, (There was a cigarette burn on the tubing, and a half cigarette was found lying in the corner of the machine where the CO2 had blown it). The CO2 system discharged, filling the machine with CO2. This cigarette could have rolled against waste paper or other combustible material and that would have resulted in serious consequences for this Major Company.
